With prices for mens bands soaring to almost unrealistic heights, many couples are taking matters into their own hands so to speak. Women are getting married later in life now, and by the time they decide to marry, the need for fancy engagement rings has dwindled considerably in many cases.

Not only are large numbers of women willingly foregoing the usual engagement ring, there’s a large number of women who decide to pop the question to their sweethearts on their own, and with these decisions comes engagement rings for men.

Men don’t seem to mind this change in age old protocol at all, considering some men even admit holding off a proposal until they can afford a decent engagement ring for their girlfriend. When the tide turns in their direction, however, many seem quite happy to be the recipient of a beautiful ring that frequently has diamonds of its own.

Styles for these new male engagement rings differ widely. Many women choose to have them custom made because even though there are many men’s bands on the market, these are typically purchased as wedding rings. Women want something that better resembles a true engagement ring.

And yes, sets do exist! Larger jewelers have jumped on the bandwagon and started designing new items like matching engagement and mens rings for men and women. Similar to the standard tradition where the women would buy her husband’s wedding ring and the man would of course buy the wife’s, many sets are being designed now to accommodate engagement mens rings as well.

Couples can now buy each other an engagement ring, and then follow up with wedding bands.

In cases where the woman is buying the engagement ring, she has probably made the decision to forgo her own engagement ring. She usually has the option of buying her boyfriend not only the mens ring, but a coordinating wedding ring when the time comes.
